Reimagining Rochester’s Future—One Green Space at a Time
Tucked into the heart of Rochester’s historic High Falls neighborhood is an organization that’s quietly transforming the way our city thinks about community, nature, and opportunity.
Greentopia was founded in 2011 with a bold mission: to remind Rochester of the treasure it has right in the middle of downtown—a 96-foot waterfall, a gorge, and a river, all begging to be reimagined as something more.
And that dream is becoming a reality.
Greentopia has been at the forefront of efforts to bring a state park to downtown Rochester, an urban oasis unlike any other. This park, spanning 40 acres across both sides of the Genesee River, will be a space where nature, history, and community meet. The state park is currently in design development, with public engagement underway and phased openings planned over the next several years.
But Greentopia isn’t just focused on the future—it’s also deeply rooted in the now.
Through its Green Visions program, it’s already making a difference on the ground (literally) in the JOSANA neighborhood, transforming vacant lots into thriving flower farms while helping young adults gain job skills and a fresh start.
